Availability? – Easy to Get. A few characters, such as Optimus Prime and Bumblebee, may not be as redily available as some of their lesser robot counterparts, but should still be relativly easy to Get.

Zhu Zhu Pets
What Is It? – Cool little motorized pet hamsters that go “zoom zoom”.
What Makes This Toy Fun For My Son? – These little guys zoom around, chirp, squeak, and bounce off of walls like they were made of rubber.
What Should I Look For? – Mr. Squiggles, Num Nums, Chunk, and Pipsqueak are the stars of the show. Also be on the lookout for accompanying accessories such as the Zhu Zhu hamster ball, hamster wheel, blanket, and a multitude of interlocking Zhu Zhu playsets which, when put together, form one giant hamster city.
Availability? – Very Very Hard to Get. The hottest of hot toys for 2009, your best bet will be to shop on-line, though expect to pay a slight premium over MSRP.

Nerf N-Strike Raider Rapid Fire CS-35 Dart Blaster
What Is It? – The Nerf gun Al Capone would use.
What Makes This Toy Fun For My Son? – Fires Nerf darts like a tommy gun; semi or fully automatic with a reloadable dart drum that holds the largest amount of Nerf dart reloads in the entire line or blasters.
What Should I Look For? – The special bonus pack which includes an extra drum and darts.
Availability? – Easy to Get (in most cases.) This is the hottest Nerf gun out right now, and stock of the standard Raider blaster is healthy. The bonus pack Nerf Raiders seem to be a bit more limited in distribution however.

Apple iPod Touch
What Is It? – Another year another iPod: but this one really is worth the upgrade.
What Makes This Toy Fun For My Son? – 8gb, 32gb, or 64gb of music, video, photo, and app storage, along with web browsing at the touch of a finger.
What Should I Look For? – A small wallet sized mini touchscreen computer. Be sure to grab at least the 32gb version, if not the 64gb for maximum longevity.
Availability? – Easy to Get. Just about every electronics retailer has an iPod Touch in stock.

Twilight New Moon Action Figures
What Is It? – Another hot book to sliver screen (a la Harry Potter) property involving vampires and werewolves.
What Makes This Toy Fun For My Son? – While aimed more at the pre-teen and up young girl demographic, werewolf vs. vampire battles and a solid storyline have boys digging Twilight New Moon too.
What Should I Look For? – Collectible action figures made by Neca. Highly detailed reproductions of the major Twilight New Moon characters.
Availability? – Easy to Get. Online and in specialty shops primarily, as Neca items are not quite mass market just yet.

Bakugan 7 in 1 Maxus Dragonoid
What Is It? – Pokemon like card games with Transformers like robots.
What Makes This Toy Fun For My Son? – 6 mini robot “traps” combine to make one gigantic robot “warrior.” Perfect for battling other robot warriors with or without the accompanying trading card game.
What Should I Look For? – A big dragon headed warrior robot in a big Bakugan box.
Availability? – Easy to Get. No shortages of Bakugan this Holiday season.

Chuck My Talking Truck
What Is It? – A super happy (CARS movie style) Tonka dump truck.
What Makes This Toy Fun For My Son? – Chucks speaks 40 sounds and phrases and comes equipped with sensors that “drive” him over to your boy when he calls.
What Should I Look For? – Be Sure to get the interactive Chuck My Talking Truck, and not one of the non-talking version of Chuck or his friends.
Availability? – Easy to Get. Many Chuck the Talking Trucks are readily available.

Elmo Tickle Hands
What Is It? – Furry red Elmo hands.
What Makes This Toy Fun For My Son? – A vibrating glove lets your toddler pretend to be Tickle Me Elmo.
What Should I Look For? – A pair of furry red hands with Elmo’s face on them.
Availability? – Easy to Get. Nowhere near as difficult to obtain ans the original Tickle Me Elmo’s that started the craze.

LEGO Ultimate Building Set
What Is It? – A Lego bucket with 405 standard lego bricks.
What Makes This Toy Fun For My Son? – With the LEGO Ultimate Building Set you and your son can build houses, cars, spaceships, virtually anything your imaginations can come up with.
What Should I Look For? – A cool blue box shaped like a tapered Lego brick.
Availability? – Easy to Get. Since the starter kit is not affiliated with any licensed property, finding one should be simple.
